Problem number 16. A train from Kang Station to Aroos Station leaves at 6 in the morning and passes by three other stations without stopping. The numbers show the travel times between two stations, in hours. The train arrives at Aroos Station at 11 at night on the same day. What is the travel time between Aroos Station and the previous station? This problem will have several steps. First, we'll need to find the total time it takes to get from Kang Station to Aroos Station. Then, we'll find the totals that are already marked on here. Then we'll use those two pieces of information to find the travel time between the last two stations. The first thing we're going to find is how long it takes to get from Kang Station to Aroos Station. The train leaves at 6 in the morning and arrives at 11 at night. 6 in the morning is 6 a.m. and 11 at night is 11 p.m. So basically the train takes all day and well into the night. To figure out how much time this is, we can think about this as being from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. From 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 12 noon is 6 hours and from 12 noon to 11 p.m. is 11 hours. That means that the total trip will take 17 hours. Since we know the whole trip takes 17 hours, we know that all the distances marked here will need to add up to 17. So this is our second step. Let's find the ones that we already know. 2 plus 3 plus 7 will be 3 plus 7 is 10 plus 2 is 12. So we know that this part of the trip takes 12 hours. So now let's find what the question mark stands for, the third step. So we know the total trip takes 17 hours and all the parts of the trip together except for the last station, the part that we're looking for, takes 12 hours. We can just subtract those two lengths of time. 17 minus 12 is 5. So the last part of the trip from the last station to Aroost station will take 5 hours. This is answer D.
Video Summary
To determine the travel time between Aroos Station and the previous station, we start by calculating the total journey time from Kang Station to Aroos Station. The train departs at 6 a.m. and arrives at 11 p.m., totaling 17 hours of travel. Given the time between the first three stations is 12 hours (2 + 3 + 7), we subtract these from the total 17 hours to find the duration between the final station and Aroos, resulting in 5 hours. Therefore, the travel time between the previous station and Aroos Station is 5 hours.
