Problem number 13. Which figure can be made from these two pieces? A, B, C, D, or E? When solving a problem like this, I like to focus on small parts of the final figure to check the answers. First, the figure on the left will need to be rotated in order to fit into the other figure to make a square. And each of our answers is a square. What I want to focus is the corners. So this piece, and what goes up here, and likewise on the other side. This piece with the plus, and what goes on here. When we rotate the figure to fit it in, the plus sign ends up here, above the green circle, and the green circle ends up here, above the plus. So the figure will have two parts like this. First, this one with a plus, and a circle. And the second piece, which has the plus here, and a circle above it. These two are the corners. The rest of the figure fits in like this. So let's look at our answer choices, and find ones that have something like this on the corners. And obviously, the figure can be rotated anyway. In A, we do have a plus sign here, and clockwise from it, a circle. And, if we looked at it in the orientation that the drawing I made is, we do have a circle under the plus sign, and a plus sign under the circle. So this should be the right answer. Let's check the other ones. In B, there is a plus sign with the circle clockwise from it, but under the plus sign, there's a diamond with an orange background. So this will not work for us. It's not the right answer. In C, we don't have any plus signs in the corners, so that's not the answer. In D, we do have a plus sign, and the circle, oriented the same way as in my picture, but under the circle, there's the diamond on the orange background, so that's not the right answer. And in E, here's a plus sign. Clockwise, there is no circle on a green space, so that also is not the answer. So the correct answer is A. .
Video Summary
The problem involves determining which figure can be made from two given pieces. The solution involves focusing on specific parts, like corners, to check compatibility with the final shape, which is a square. The key is matching patterns: a piece with a plus sign and a green circle needs to align properly. The analysis of each option shows that only figure A matches this setup, with the correct orientation of symbols at the corners. Options B, C, D, and E are ruled out because they either lack the necessary symbols or have incorrect configurations. Thus, the correct answer is A.
