Problem number seven. Peter puts the four puzzle pieces shown together to make a square. Which picture can he make? A, B, C, D, or E? Here on the computer screen, we can just rearrange the pieces to try to make the puzzle. The first piece goes in the upper left-hand corner. The next piece can go in the lower corner. Assuming that we don't have to rotate it. Let's put it there for now, see what happens. The third piece will easily fit in the lower left. And if the last piece fits, we will have our picture. Let's move it over here. And it makes an image of a crescent moon as shown in picture B. You can also look at the pieces and see if there's something that shows us what the picture would look like. For one thing, one fourth of the picture is going to be blue, or maybe all blue except for this little part. This means that it cannot be seen cannot be C, D, or E. Because if we divide those into four pieces, we don't get one that is anywhere near being completely blue. It could possibly have the blue piece in the upper left, depending how well we draw our lines. The other thing to notice is the moon has sharp corners here and here. They look a lot more like the corners of the moon than the ones in A. So the answer will be B.
