Problem number 19. Each year, Maria receives teddy bears for her birthday. For her first birthday, she received one teddy bear. For her second birthday, she received two teddy bears. For each following birthday, she received one more teddy bear than the previous year. How many teddy bears does Maria have in total if she is six years old? 19, 20, 21, 22, or 23? If she received one teddy bear for her first birthday, and two teddy bears for her second birthday, then she would get one more teddy bear than she got the previous year. Which means she is getting teddy bears equal to how old she is. She keeps all teddy bears, so we have to add all of them up. So, 1 plus 2 plus 3 plus 4 plus 5 plus 6. So, we are going to start by making these into groups of 10. So, we have 4 and 6, which is 10, and 5, 3, and 2, which is 10. 10 plus 10 is 20, plus 1 would be 21. So, that means she has 21 teddy bears since she is six years old. Which means our answer is C.
Video Summary
Maria receives teddy bears equal to her age each year. By age six, she accumulates: 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 21 teddy bears. Therefore, Maria has a total of 21 teddy bears by her sixth birthday, making the correct answer C.
