Video Summary
Question 17. Philip built 6 towers using green blocks and blue blocks. Each tower has 5 blocks. Blocks of the same color do not touch. When viewed from above, the tower's look is shown in the picture. How many blue blocks did Philip use in total? To solve this, we have to notice that each tower has 5 blocks. So we can create a blank tower like so, not knowing the colors. We know that there are 6 total towers, so let's add those in as such. Now, we know that the top block for one of the towers is blue. We can see from the diagram that 4 of the towers have blue blocks on top, and 2 have green on top. So we can draw this out like so. Finally, we know that blocks of the same color do not touch. So, if there is blue on top, we will need green below that, and then blue below that, green below that, and blue below that. For the 2 towers that have green on top, we have the same pattern, just alternating. And finally, we just need to add together how many blue blocks we see. And when we do this, we will get our answer, which is D, 16.
