Problem number 11. Grandmother made 20 gingerbread cookies for her grandchildren. She decorated them with raisins and nuts. First she decorated 15 cookies with raisins, and then she decorated 15 cookies with nuts. Alice, how many cookies were decorated with both raisins and nuts? We're gonna draw a picture to help us with this problem. These are the cookies. There are 20 of them. First let's decorate 15 of the cookies with raisins. We're trying to find the least number of cookies possible to be decorated with both raisins and nuts. We are going to put nuts on these five cookies which do not have raisins, which leaves us with 10 more cookies that need to have nuts. So this is what the cookies would look like in the end, and we see that there are 10 cookies with both raisins and nuts, which means our answer is E.
Video Summary
Grandmother decorated 20 gingerbread cookies, using raisins and nuts. Initially, 15 cookies were adorned with raisins and another 15 with nuts. The task was to determine how many cookies contained both toppings. By decorating 5 non-raisin cookies with nuts, 10 remaining cookies needed nuts while already having raisins. Thus, 10 cookies ended up with both toppings. Therefore, 10 cookies were decorated with both raisins and nuts.
