Problem number 14. In the animal school, 3 kittens, 4 ducklings, 2 baby geese, and several lambs are taking lessons. The teacher owl found out that all of her pupils have 44 legs altogether. How many lambs are among them? 6, 5, 4, 3, or 2. First, we will find out how many legs the kittens, ducklings, and baby geese have. And then we can use that number to find out how many legs the lambs have and then how many lambs there are. So the kittens all have 4 legs. And the ducklings have 2 legs. And the baby geese, which are also referred to as goslings, also have 2 legs. So the kittens have 12 legs because each of them has 4 and there are 3 of them. And 3 times 4 is 12. And then the 4 ducklings all have 2 legs, which is 8 because 4 times 2 is 8. And then the goslings also have 2 legs and then they have 4 legs in total because 2 times 2 is 4. And 12 plus 8 plus 4 equals 24. That means we are 20 short on legs because 44 minus 24 is 20. And all the lambs have 4 legs, which means in order to find the answer we have to do 20 divided by 4 because there are 20 legs among the lambs. So 20 divided by 4 is 5, which means there are 5 lambs in total, which means our answer is B, 5. 5.
