Problem number 17, Wanda chose a few of the following shapes and said among the shapes I chose there are two colored shapes, two large shapes, and two round shapes. What is the smallest number of shapes that Wanda could have chosen? 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. We are going to start with the smallest number and work our way up. If we look at the shapes we see there is small uncolored square, large colored square, small colored triangle, large uncolored triangle, large uncolored circle, and small colored circle. It says that she chose two round shapes and there are only two round shapes in total which means these two must have been chosen. One of them is large so we only need one more large shape and since one of the ones we chose is colored it only has to be large and colored. So if you can find a large colored shape that completes the rules. And we see that there is a large colored one that completes it which means your answer is B, 3.
Video Summary
Wanda chose the smallest number of shapes that satisfy her criteria: two colored, two large, and two round shapes. Total round shapes available are two (large uncolored circle and small colored circle), so both must be chosen. Among these, one is large and one is colored, needing just one more shape that is both large and colored. The large colored square fulfills this requirement. Therefore, the smallest number of shapes she could have chosen is three, making the answer B, 3.
