But let's take a closer look to confirm that.  The first shape in here is made up of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 squares.  The second part of the shape is made up of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 squares.  Since one part is made out of 9 and the other part is made out of 7, these are very clearly two different shapes.  So our answer will be E.
