Question 23. Anya wrote down the number of pieces of different fruit that she has. Unfortunately, some digits have been covered by paint. In total, she has 106 pieces of fruit. The number of pieces of two of the types of fruit are equal. She has twice as many of one type of fruit as she does of one other type. She has more than 10 pieces of each type of fruit. How many bananas does she have? Let's start off by writing what we know, which will be in an equation like this. We also know that Anya has 30 oranges. With this information, we can begin. Now, we know that she has the same number of pieces of two different types of fruit. And since we know that she has 30 oranges, there is one other number, which will be our apples, that ends with a zero. So that is the only possible answer that could be the same as the amount of oranges. So we know that she will have 30 apples. Now, we know that there are 106 fruit. Since we know what 60 of the fruit are, 30 oranges and 30 apples, we can take those out of the equation, subtracting 60 from 106. So we end up with a total of 46 fruit left. The other piece of information that we have is that she has twice as many of one type of fruit as she does the other type. We notice that we are left with three numbers, and they are ending with a 2, a 1, and a 3. There is no way to multiply a number by 2 and end up with a 3 digit at the end, unless we are using fractions. So we know that the number that ends with a 1 will be half the number as the one that is ending with a 2. Because we have 46 fruit, the only possible answer here will end up being 11 and 22. If we subtract those out from 46, we will do 46 minus 33, and that will lead us to our answer, which will mean we will have 13 bananas. Answer A.
Video Summary
Anya has 106 pieces of fruit, including 30 oranges and 30 apples, with three other types totaling 46 pieces. Along with the conditions that the numbers have to match specific criteria (one being twice another and specific endings), it is deduced that 11 and 22 are the other two numbers. By subtracting these from 46, it is revealed that Anya has 13 bananas.
