4. Sophie wants to write the letter KENGU by using letters from the boxes. She can only take one letter from each box. What letter must Sophie take from box number 4? Ok, so there are 5 boxes and 5 letters, and we must take one letter from each box. So how we can solve this problem is by taking the letters from each box in a way that we reduce the number of options left in other boxes. In other words, if we take an N from one box, we know that we can't take an N from any of the other boxes, so we reduce the number of options we have to take from the other boxes. So starting with box 3, box 3 only has one letter, let's go ahead and take that N. We also no longer need any Ns, so we can cross them out everywhere else, as you guys can see in this picture. Number 2, box 1 now only has an E left, so we can take this E, and then we can cross out the remaining Es in every other box. Step 3, box 5 now only has a U, so after crossing out the E, we pick up this U, and then we cross out the other Us everywhere else. Now, box 4 only has a G left, so we'll take that, and that pretty much goes and solves our problem. D is the correct answer, G is the letter we take from box 4.
Video Summary
To write the word KENGU by selecting one letter from each of the five boxes, Sophie must strategically choose letters to minimize options in subsequent boxes. Starting with box 3, which has only an "N," she selects it and eliminates other "N's" from consideration. Box 1 then only has "E" left, so she chooses that and crosses out other "E's." Box 5 is left with "U," so she picks it and removes other "U's." Finally, box 4 only has "G" after these eliminations, so she selects "G." Therefore, Sophie must take "G" from box 4.
