Some glasses are stacked on top of each other. A stack of 8 glasses is 42 cm high and a stack of 2 glasses is 18 cm high. How high is a stack of 6 glasses? So we can see here that a stack of 8 glasses is 42 cm tall and a stack of 2 glasses is 18 cm tall. So there are extra 6 glasses over here which add 24 cm to the height. Obviously there's a little bit of extra that the first glass over here gets, but each glass afterwards adds the same amount. It's kind of what we can tell from this image that's over here. So since these 6 glasses are added and they add an equivalent amount of height, each extra glass added to the stack increases its height by 24 cm, which is 42 minus 18, divided by 6, which is 4 cm. So if we're going to ask for how high a stack of 6 glasses is, we can take the height of this stack of 2 glasses and add 4 glasses to that. So 2 glasses is 18 cm, plus 4 cm per glass for this additional glass, plus 4 times 4, so 18 plus 16 gives us 34 cm. The answer is D.
Video Summary
A stack of 8 glasses is 42 cm high, and a stack of 2 glasses is 18 cm high. The difference in height (24 cm) is due to the additional 6 glasses, so each glass adds 4 cm (24 cm divided by 6) to the height. To find the height of a stack of 6 glasses, start with the height of 2 glasses (18 cm) and add the height for 4 additional glasses (4 cm per glass). Thus, the height of a stack of 6 glasses is 18 cm + 16 cm = 34 cm.
