We could continue filling in the numbers one by one. However, we can also recognize another pattern.  First, let's look at the area that we are trying to figure out. Aidan wants to know what is in the number 12, the number below it, the number to the right of it, and the number below that.  The pattern we can recognize, instead of adding in one by one the numbers, any number below is 8 greater than the one above it. So 4 to 12, 5 to 13, 12 to 20, 13 to 21, and finally 21 plus 8 will give us 29, which gives us our answer, which will be C.
