Question 4. Emily has a piece of paper marked as shown, which she folds to form a cube. Which of the following five cubes can she get from this paper? If we take a look at the kangaroo with the blue background, and assume that one will be facing forwards towards us, if we folded up the cube with the green side on top and the blue side in front of us, one of the yellow kangaroos would be next to the blue kangaroo, like so, and then the third kangaroo would be facing the same way as the other yellow kangaroo. Since this is a cube with three sides always visible from any point of view, we know that since the blue kangaroo and one of the yellow kangaroos are on opposite sides, they will not be visible. So A cannot be the answer. Next, since both the yellow kangaroos are facing the same exact way, D cannot be the answer either. With this, we notice that if we folded the cube, you would have green on top, the blue kangaroo in the front, and then a kangaroo looking the opposite direction, upside down, next to the blue kangaroo. So this will show us our answer, which is B.
Video Summary
Emily needs to determine which cube can be formed from a piece of paper marked with kangaroos that she unfolds. By folding the cube with the green side on top and the blue kangaroo facing forward, one yellow kangaroo will be adjacent, while the third kangaroo faces the same way as the second yellow one. Since the blue and one yellow kangaroo are on opposite sides, they can't both be visible at once, so cube A is incorrect. Cubes where the yellow kangaroos face the same way, like D, are also incorrect. Therefore, the correct cube arrangement is B.
