Video Summary
The trapezoid on the left has a perimeter of 22 centimeters. Four of these trapezoids are joined together without overlapping to form the pinwheel design shown on the right. The perimeter of the pinwheel is 56 centimeters. What is the length of the side AB in the trapezoid? Okay, so if we just imagine the total perimeter of four trapezoids that are not touching each other, then we would have 22 centimeters times 4, which is 88 centimeters. And now we notice there's obviously a difference between the 88 centimeters and the 56 centimeters on this pinwheel, so finding that difference, we have 32 centimeters. And you can imagine, if we consider each trapezoid, they're sort of like, because of this pinwheel design, they're losing the perimeter on these, like, two segments of their perimeter. And each of these segments is equal to the length of AB. So in total, we have eight segments of AB. So we know that 8AB is equal to the total missing amount, which is 32. So AB must equal 4 centimeters.
