Hello and welcome to the Math Kangaroo 2021 Levels 9 and 10 video solution set, prepared for you by Bart Gebke. So the Math Kangaroo 2021 Levels 9 and 10 exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions, which you are given 75 minutes to answer. No calculators are permitted on this test. Out of the 30 multiple-choice questions, 10 are going to be worth 3 points, 10 4 points, and 10 5 points. The 1's being worth 3 being the easiest, and the 1's being worth 5 being the hardest. In total, you can score up to 120 points on the exam. Here's what you can expect from these video solutions. First, I will read to you the problem. Next, I'll show the multiple-choice answers if they are necessary to solve the problem. Oftentimes, they are not. Then I will explain how to solve the problem in the most intuitive way that I can. Before this though, there will be a 5-second break where you can pause the video and try the problem for yourself. But I just can't get the answer, I hear you saying. First off, that's okay. Some of these questions are incredibly difficult to solve, especially the ones worth 5 points, so do not despair. Second, try watching part of the video until, third, you figure out how to start or how to get past the part you are stuck at. Then pause the video, and fourth, keep going until you've solved the problem. Last, I'd like to leave you off with some general exam tips. Number 1 is going to be to read the question. Slowly. I cannot tell you how many times during making these videos I've read the question too quickly and started solving it clueless that I missed out on a necessary piece of information. Read it once, then read it again, and make sure you understand what the question is asking. Two, answer every question, even if you're just guessing. You're not penalized for getting an answer wrong, so close to the end of the test, fill in any answers that you haven't already filled out. You will always get an answer wrong that you don't answer, so you might as well give an educated guess. Last, if you cannot figure out a question, move on. I was once in a math competition where there were 20 questions, each worth 1 point, and they ranged in difficulty. The last question was by far the easiest, yet 30% of participants didn't get it right because they never got to the last question. Don't get caught up on a problem that you can't solve. Your time is probably better spent trying to solve a different problem. Make sure that you at least read every problem so that you can best allocate your time to maximize your total points scored. So that's all I got for you in this intro. Grab your pencils and paper, and enjoy. Go to Beadaholique.com for all of your beading supply needs!
