Question 4. Katrin arranges tables of size 2 by 1 according to the number of participants in a meeting. The diagram shows the top view of the tables for a small, a medium, and a large meeting. How many tables are used for the large meeting? We know that the tables have a size of 1 by 2. We know that for a large meeting, we need a length of 7. The best way to get to 7 is we'll have one table turned 90 degrees to see the 1 side, and then 3 tables with the 2 side. This gives us 1 plus 2 plus 2 plus 2, or 7. Next, we just have to fill out the rest of this so we have a square. We'll add 4 more tables like so, 2 tables like so, and 2 more like so. Now, all we have to do is count up the total number of tables, and this will give us our solution, which is C, 12.
