Video Summary
Sarah Segee and teaching assistant Alex introduce a Math Kangaroo Level 3–4 webinar series designed to familiarize students with contest-style problems. The lessons are recorded and available through students’ Math Kangaroo accounts, and participants can interact using polls and chat.

The Level 3–4 contest has 24 questions: eight each worth 3, 4, and 5 points, with 75 minutes to complete them. Sarah explains that contest problems differ from routine school exercises because students must interpret each problem, choose a strategy, work carefully, and check their answers. Keeping written notes can make solutions easier to verify.

The class explores examples involving counting and arithmetic, word problems, trading marbles, balance scales, geometry and area, spatial reasoning with a cube, clocks, and calendar logic. The instructors demonstrate strategies such as identifying key information, translating “as many as” into equality, using division and remainders, testing answer choices when stuck, and finding square side lengths before calculating area.

Students are encouraged to build speed on easier questions, attempt every question because incorrect answers do not lose points, ask questions, and practice with past contests. Handouts and recordings are available through the course account.
