Mastering Math Kangaroo Webinar

Recommended For: Students aged 14-16 years or in grades 9 or 10.

Note: This webinar is distinct from the Math Kangaroo Competition held in March.

Registration: Register before October 1 to participate live in all webinar sessions.

Study Material:

  • Provided by the teacher.
  • No required textbook.
  • For extra practice, you can watch Math Kangaroo video questions and solutions.

Handouts: None required; print any provided materials before each class.

Format:

  • Interactive sessions with engagement triggers through Polls.
  • No student-teacher discussions as in a regular small group class.

Webinar Presenter: Dr. Van Koroleva
Dr. Koroleva is a Math Kangaroo Faculty with a PhD in applied mathematics from Harvard University. Van seeks to inspire students to discover their passion for math and science. She learned early in her career teaching and doing research with college students and scientists that curiosity and strong foundational skills are absolutely necessary for successful learning at higher levels. Currently, she enjoys teaching students of all ages, designing highly personalized curricula, and nurturing the inquisitive minds of her young children. She was drawn to Math Kangaroo by the shared interest of spreading the love of mathematics.

Webinar Contributor: Lyev Pitram
Lyev Pitram is currently a 12th grader in Philadelphia, PA, Lyev has been a Math Kangaroo participant for 8 years, since 4th grade. He was nationally ranked in 5th grade (19th) and in 10th grade (17th), as well as 2nd in Pennsylvania in 10th grade. Lyev also teaches interactive online math courses to middle school students across the country and is a Student Assistant Teacher for Algebra II and Calculus at his high school. The Math Kangaroo is his favorite competition, and he looks forward to working with students!
 

Course Information:

  • This webinar is designed for students with math competition experience or those interested in high-level Math Kangaroo competition.
  • The course uses problems from the Level 9-10 competitions and assumes familiarity with problem-solving strategies.
  • The course is intense but enjoyable.
  • Optional homework for weeks 2-9 includes an entire Math Kangaroo exam to enhance persistence and stamina for the competition.
  • Limited to 300 students.
