In this webinar a Math Kangaroo instructor incorporates engagement triggers through Polls to have students participate in an activity. There are no student-teacher discussions as it happens in a regular small group class.
Webinar Presenter: Dr. Sarah Sagi - Math Kangaroo Faculty and Curriculum Expert who contributed greatly in building Math Kangaroo online curriculum. She has been teaching Math Kangaroo classes and webinars for 3 years. Dr. Sagi coached elementary school math clubs leading these students to top honors in several international math contests. She graduated from Harvey Mudd College and earned a PhD from UC San Diego in Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Sagi is a mother of four children, currently in middle school, high school, and universities. Because Dr. Sagi recognizes that each student is unique, she tries to introduce alternative methods for solving challenging math problems. This enables each student will find their favorite tools. Her hobbies include Zumba, crochet and walking.
Contributor: Lyev Pitram - Currently in 11th grade in Philadelphia, PA. Lyev has completed the Math Kangaroo contest every year since 2017 (with the exception of 2021, when he did a French International version of the competition). Lyev is a Student Assistant Teacher in a high school for an Algebra 2 class. Lyev looks forward to helping other students grow their passion for math.
Webinar Information:
- Students in grades 3-4 with math competition experience or who are interested in competing at a high level in Math Kangaroo are invited to join the Navigating Course Webinar.
- This course draws on problems from the Level 3-4 competitions, and assumes students have some familiarity with problem solving strategies.
- This course is intense and fast-paced but fun at the same time.
- For added challenge, the optional homework for weeks 2-9 will be an entire Math Kangaroo exam to build the students’ persistence and stamina for the actual competition.
- This webinar is planned to meet 10 times for 1 hour each.
- The number of participants is limited to 300 students.
