Discovering Math Kangaroo is recommended for students 10-11-12 years old or in grades: 5 or 6.

This Math Kangaroo Webinar is distinct from the Competition held in March.

Best to register before January 1 to participate live in all webinar sessions.

Webinar study material: teacher provides material for the webinar. There is no required textbook although for extra practice at home these books are recommended but optional.  

Handouts for webinars. Print before each class. There are no handouts for webinars 3 and 5.  
Set B Webinar Handouts Level 5-6  

In this webinar a Math Kangaroo instructor incorporates engagement triggers through Polls to have students participate in an activity. There are no student-teacher discussions as it happens in a regular small group class. 

Webinar Presenter: Dr. Ying Yang
Dr.Yang is a Faculty and an Iowa state director for Math Kangaroo.
She is passionate about mindfulness and has founded iGrow Club to foster mindful parenting and create a close-knit community. With her extensive interdisciplinary background, Dr. Yang has served as an educator at several universities and achieved recognition as one of the top 1% of coaches in a national collegiate sales competition. In recent years, she has also taken on the role of teaching Math Kangaroo to students ranging from 2nd to 6th grade, where she has not only imparted mathematical knowledge but also coached them for the Math Kangaroo competition.


Webinar Contributor: Matthew Fakler is a senior at Davidson Academy. He lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, and he started volunteering with Math Kangaroo after placing first in 9th grade. He started Math Kangaroo in middle school and have enjoyed both taking the tests and teaching for them ever since. Matthew has been tutoring for about 6 years now informally with his math team and about 3 years with established organizations. He looks forward to working with everyone! 



Webinar Information:

  • Students in grades 5-6 with math competition experience or who are interested in competing at a high level in Math Kangaroo are invited to join the Discovering Course Webinar.
  • This course draws on problems from the Level 5-6 competitions, and assumes students have familiarity with problem solving strategies.
  • This course is intense but fun at the same time.
  • For added challenge, the optional homework for weeks 2-9 will be an entire Math Kangaroo exam to build the students’ persistence and stamina for the actual competition.
  • This webinar is planned to meet 10 times for 1 hour each.    
  • The number of participants is limited to 300 students.

Lessons 3 and 5 don't have handouts.
 

Optional Homework: for weeks 2-9 to take Math Kangaroo 30-question test to build persistence and stamina for the actual competition.
